The Mask or helmet is one of the instruments vital to Dream’s identity. It’s a part of his symbols of office. This also comprises a leather pouch with endless sand and ruby with an immense power that can make your dreams come true. The same ruby was responsible for the diabolical Diner Scene featuring John Dee.
The first few episodes of The Sandman journey through Morpheus’s quest to retrieve his stolen totems after finally escaping his century-long captivity. He literally had to go to the depths of Hell and engage in an epic battle in the Oldest Game with Lucifer Morningstar to get his helmet back.
