The first episode of Harry & Meghan belonged to the much-loved Princess Diana. Prince Harry candidly spoke about the hardships his mother had to face before and after her divorce from his father, King Charles III. Meanwhile, the show stirred a massive controversy as well by airing the clips from the bombshell Panorama program. 

Princess Diana’s interview with the journalist Martin Bashir in 1995 was one of the biggest scandals to take place in royal history. The late Princess of Wales poured her heart out in the infamous interaction. She discussed her royal life, divorce, lack of support from the Palace, and her husband’s infidelity. Though she spoke the truth, it is no secret that the late royal was deceived into giving the interview by Bashir. Thus, months back, Prince William had questioned the legitimacy of the claims while also calling out for its permanent ban.

While Prince William had condemned the infamous interview, Prince Harry hailed his mother for speaking the truth. In the Netflix show Harry & Meghan, the Duke of Sussex reflected on the struggles his mother had to face in her life because of the royal title. He sympathized with Princess Diana for being exposed to the world after her divorce. Though the Sussex royal agreed that his mother was deceived into giving the interview, he claimed that it was important for her to reveal the truth.

“I think she had a lived experience of how she was struggling to live that life. She felt compelled to talk about it. She spoke the truth of her experience,” Prince Harry said in the docuseries.

Meanwhile, Harry & Meghan also showcased clips from the infamous interview. In the clips, Princess Diana can be seen revealing how she hates being papped and being the center of attraction. She called out the media for comprising her privacy.
