Well, author Sarah Alderson did go on a trip with her real-life best friend, which inspired her to write the book, The Weekend Away. With the book and movie, she wants to highlight the significance of friendship in life. In an interview, Alderson says, “Female friends have saved me so many times… I really treasure my friendships, and I wanted that to come across in the movie.”
