Fans Left Disheartened Following ‘Six of Crows’ Scrapping as “Disappointed” ‘Shadow and Bone’ Author Speaks Her Heart on Cancellation
The conclusion of the fantasy saga Game of Thrones marked the end of an era in fantasy television. This prompted many networks, including Netflix, to jump into the race to compete for new and captivating fantasy narratives. From The Witcher to The Umbrella Academy, the streaming giant has churned out many compelling shows to fill this void. However, the show that most closely mirrored the essence of Game of Thrones was Shadow and Bone.
After delivering two seasons of captivating storytelling, the show has officially concluded its run on Netflix. This decision came in light of the post-strikes impact, which led the OTT platform to hammer down on five series. This included the Eric Heisserer-developed series, and its anticipated spin-off, Six of Crows. Recently, Leigh Bardugo, the author of Grishaverse novels that birthed the Netflix series, shared her thoughts about the cancellation of the show.

Bardugo took to her Instagram handle and confirmed that the American fantasy streaming television series will not be coming back to the small screens for a third season. She also closed the door on any hopes of a series spinoff, confirming that its possibility is completely off the table. Bardugo wrote, “I’m heartbroken and deeply disappointed”, but she was also proud of the incredible series that her brainchild inspired.
The news of the show’s cancellation did not only disappoint Bardugo but stirred a wave of disappointment among fans.
Fans still carrying hope for the spinoff Six of Crows
Netflix and the author herself have both confirmed the cancellation of Shadow and Bone and its spin-off. However, fans still seem to be unwilling to let go of their hope, especially for Six of Crows. The fact that the script and cast of Six of Crows were already in place made the unexpected cancellation even harder for fans to digest. Apart from disappointment, fans also expressed their frustration about the repeated cancellation of their favorite shows by Netflix.
A fan also suggested that the Six of Crows fandom should come together to get the spin-off made by another company, other than Netflix. The fact that the actor will not be able to play their characters and finish what they started deeply disappointed fans.
Some fans, nevertheless, chose to be “delusional” about Six of Crows, despite the announcement of the cancelations.

The live-action adaptation of Six of Crows may be out of consideration for Netflix, but the streaming giant has other remarkable shows to offer that are gaining significant traction. One of the most anticipated live-action adaptations by Netflix is Yu Yu Hakusho, which will be live on the platform on December 14. Though it may not entirely bridge the gap for disappointed Shadow and Bone fans, given the highly positive response from fans to its trailer, the show is likely to become the next big thing on Netflix after One Piece.
