Shadow and Bone season 2 just dropped on Netflix. It is based on Leigh Bardugo’s books of the same name and dropped its first season in 2021. Although the series enjoys a fan following due to the books it is based on, there is still no guarantee whether fans can see a third season or not. What is even more worrisome is that if it gets the chop, its spin-off Six of Crows may never see the light of the day either. 

The fantasy adventure series showrunner, Eric Heisserer, has revealed that he has been developing the offshoot for a while now. Co-showrunner Daegan Fryklind handled Shadow and Bone, while he worked with the writers to pen down the offshoot’s script. The offshoot will adapt events from the Crooked Kingdom, which is the second book in Leigh’s Crows duology.

Heisserer revealed to EW that the scripts have turned out exceptional and that he has scripts ready until the eighth episode. However, Netflix has not ordered the spin-off yet. The spin-off will only get a green light if Shadow and Bone season 2 does well during its second run on the platform. 

The spin-off will mostly revolve around the Crows and the jurda parem drug. The events in the finale of Shadow and Bone 2 set the tone for the spin-off. In the finale, the Crows are brought back to handle the situation with the Fjerdans who are weaponizing the drug. Also most certainly, Inej will make a return. The showrunner further divulged that the finale was very important, as most of the events that happened in it will tie in with the offshoot. 

When fans learned about Netflix sitting on the spin-off, they were ready to stream the show. While others seriously doubt whether the show will even get a third season.

This information has caused a lot of fans to settle in on their couch with popcorn to stream the series. On the other hand, there are few who are looking at things more practically and not setting expectations from the streamer.

Well, it’s too early to tell how the show will do, but Jessie Mei Li, who plays Alina Starkov, certainly had a blast filming. If the streamer does approve of their plans for an offshoot, both shows will run simultaneously.
