Fans Celebrate as Netflix’s ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ Bags Anime Awards for Best Anime of 2023

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners marked an important achievement during this year’s animation award event. The Netflix original show managed to garner a base of hardcore anime fans, quickly gaining popularity within one season. With more than ten episodes, the Polish-Japanese series beat others in heavy competition to win the highest award in the anime world.

The Crunchyroll AnimeAwards page on Twitter announced the win on 4th March, congratulating Cyberpunk: Edgerunners winners for the Award. It included a show clip and garnered over 2.4 million views on the platform. The other competitors in the race for this prestigious Award were Spy X Family, Attack on Titan, Lycoris Recoil, Ranking of Kings (Cour 2), Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Entertainment District Arc.

The Award ceremony was held in Tokyo, Japan, where anime fans from around the world came together to attend the event. This one was the first physical event ever since the pandemic, adding to everyone’s excitement. Valkyrae and Sykkuno presented the Best Anime of the Year category. But it was not just the show, but voice actor Zach Aguilar also nabbed his award for playing David Martinez at the seventh annual award show.

Despite being new in the anime race, the show managed to not only garner viewers on Netflix but also an ace the category. It comes as a success not only for the show but also for the OTT platform who is exploring the world of anime.

Fans on Twitter were also in unison as they found the series to be well-deserving of the win. Another one pointed out how the anime was not extended too much and managed to be a small yet complete package. It also received appreciation for sticking to the original source, which was the Cyberpunk 2077 game. However, animes like Spy X Family and Demon Slayer proved to be a tough competition here.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners revolves around the main character named David, who is surviving in an ultra-futuristic world. While being of good morale, he decides to get into the dark side of the tech world to become a cyberpunk of the corrupted dystopian world.
