The latest installment of The Witcher, Season 3 Volume 2, has finally made its way to Netflix, marking the end of Henry Cavill‘s portrayal as the legendary monster hunter Geralt of Rivia. The last three episodes of this season showcase some breathtaking and intense action sequences, particularly the climactic battle on Thanedd Island where Geralt confronts his nemesis Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu). However, behind the scenes, there was nothing but respect and admiration between Cavill and Jadu.

The actors dedicated themselves to training in order to deliver a truly unforgettable fight that will be remembered for years to come. Loni Peristere, the director of the Thanedd episode, recently shared a heartwarming post on Instagram capturing Cavill and Jadu’s commitment to their showdown. The director shared a BTS photo from the last day of principal photography, where Cavill had gathered the cast around to praise his nemesis’ dedication.

Peristere disclosed that Cavill has spoken highly of Jadu as one of his trusted practice partners. In order to prepare for their roles as Geralt and Vilgefortz, Cavill and Jadu committed themselves to rigorous training routines. It encompassed both cardiovascular exercises and resistance training. The Man Of Steel actor’s primary objective was to sustain his muscularity while simultaneously maintaining an agile physique.

Jadu, who portrays the mage Vilgefortz, also underwent intensive training in order to match Cavill’s physicality and skill level. He revealed that he spent months working closely with stunt coordinator Wolfgang Stegemann. The actor tried to master fight choreography and become proficient in wielding a 12kg staff. The result was a flawless fight scene that captured the hearts and minds of fans.

Henry Cavill finally hung up his sword of Geralt at least off-screen. The finale of the much anticipated Season 3 Volume 2 was a mixed bag. It satisfied some sections of fans while leaving most of them disappointed. Fans complained that Henry Cavill was underutilized and was given much less screen time. Moreover, the finale did not focus on a major battle but rather one on a small scale that was not fit for Geralt’s conclusion. However, it is interesting to note that Netflix did actually stick to the books after deviating for a long time, in the finale. Cavill’s screen absence was largely defined by the needs of the source plot.

No spoilers, but the final Geralt scene is likely his goodbye. Although silent and somber, the character simply fades away into the thick fog of oblivion. Liam Hemsworth will now take over as the titular lead. However, the show does not reveal explicitly the fate of Cavill’s Geralt. No matter which side you are looking from, the finale has now happened.
