“Charlie is an unbelievable…”-After Patting Henry Cavill, Netflix’s ‘One Piece’ Director Weighs In on ‘Daredevil’ Actor Charlie Cox Commitment
Netflix is about to test its most ambitious live-action adaptation yet. With the curtains all set to roll down on the debut season of One Piece, its pilot director, Marc Jobst, has a few words to share. As he gets ready to roll his cast’s pirating adventures, the director opined his views on other Netflix heavyweights. He shared his thoughts on The Witcher’s Henry Cavill and former Charlie Cox-led Netflix property, Daredevil, which he himself directed.
The director acclaimed Henry Cavill’s sword-fighting skills and highlighted how it was of immense importance to the show. Meanwhile, his focus was on Daredevil actor Charlie Cox. Now a part of the MCU, the show ran on Netflix for three seasons. It was widely popular and acclaimed for its portrayal of the Marvel character.

Jobst, who directed the iconic rooftop episode on the show, went on record to say how incredibly committed Charlie Cox was to the role. In an exclusive chat with Screenrant, Jobst said, “Charlie is an unbelievable physical athlete.” The director reflected on one behind-the-scenes event of an episode where the actor was required to do intense physical exercises. Cox handled it magnificently by doing handstands effortlessly, leaving everyone awe-stunned.
Jobst comments are of remarkable importance as they come close on the heels of Charlie Cox, making a full-fledged MCU entry. Cox has already graced screens as the MCU’s Matt Murdock aka Daredevil in Spiderman: No Way Home and She-Hulk. However, the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, shall pit him rightfully into the MCU crime world.
Regardless, Netflix’s adaptation of Daredevil was moving ahead impeccably. As such, why did the streaming giant stop the show’s production post-Season 3?

Netflix had acquired licensing rights for Marvel characters such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage, among others, to develop its own mini Marvel universe. Although the results were pretty impressive and audience retention notably good too, Netflix decided to pull the plug on its highly successful Daredevil after Season 3, much to fans’ disappointment. Although Netflix did have the chance to renegotiate licensing rights with Marvel, it decided to let them go.
A big reason for it was Disney’s own streaming platform Disney+. Marvel Studios, owned by Disney, brought back all its characters under one roof. From Fox to Netflix characters, all were now part of the studios’ main timeline. While Daredevil has already marked its comeback, the X-Men characters from the Fox universe shall return soon with Deadpool 3. Additionally, Charlie Cox is to headline several MCU projects following his Daredevil: Born Again.
