The first movie was released in 1982, just a few years after the gigantic success of Star Wars. Of course, the latter overshadowed it, and it was moderately successful. Disney released Tron: Legacy years later in 2010. While the visual effects were stellar, the plot and the dialogues were not at par with the effects. It featured a generic plot and a generic hero. Now, with Leto attached to the sequel, fans cannot help but expect the same or worse.

His turn as Morbius in the MCU movie was highly criticized. Both critics and the public slammed the movie and his performance. It is considered one of the worst superhero movies of all time and is rated C+. Even during the release of this film, fans were outraged by the studio for casting him. In fact, just like Disney, DC is also hellbent on enraging fans with its decision to retain Ezra Miller.
The Thirty Seconds to Mars member also portrayed the ambitious role of Joker in The Suicide Squad. But he was often compared to his predecessor, Heath Ledger, who immortalized the role. He was not convincing as a terrifying insane man, but he just looked like someone who put on clown makeup.
According to Deadline, Disney has reportedly roped in Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Rønning. This is his fourth collaboration with Disney. Jesse Wigutow is serving as the scriptwriter. Sam Dickerman and Sean Bailey are executive producers. Justin Springer and Emma Ludbrook are also attached to the project as producers.
