“Boring and unnecessary”- NBA Legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Blatantly Calls Out James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: Way of the Water’ for Mediocre Storytelling, Praises Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ Instead
Within the blink of an eye, Tim Burton’s brilliant macabre became Netflix’s most-watched show in 2022. Wednesday, which follows the outcast life of the dark daughter of the iconic Addams Family, has left fans dazzled by its fantastic depiction. A relentless teen detective who has supernatural powers while attending a school full of competitive creatures seems to be the recipe for success.
This coming-of-age drama has got a strong foothold sitting next to the Squid Game with more than 1 billion views to date. Fans love everything about this show from the stoicism of the titular character and her monotone voice to her overly cheery roommate Enid Sinclair. Even the NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has called this show far more amusing than James Cameron’s long-awaited Avatar 2.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar found Wednesday more enlightening than the crowded sequel of Avatar
The former NBA player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar recently posted his views about the recently released James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of the Water on Substack. This is an official website created by Jabbar where he shares his thoughts about sports, politics, and popular culture.
The 75-year-old star went to watch the three-hour-long movie just to realize it went the wrong way. “Most of the scenes showing the family assimilating to life with the water tribe are boring and unnecessary,” explained the Game of Death star.
He even mentioned the Netflix hit show Wednesday saying that he was more moved by Thing’s injury than all the chaotic fight scenes in Avatar 2. Well, one certainly cannot disagree with this as it was one of the most emotional scenes in the series.

Jabbar added that the sequel took thirteen years to reach the silver screen yet it failed miserably to impress the audience. According to him, the hype of the special effects and striking visuals failed to hide “the barrenness of the story,” “the thinness of the characters,” and “the blandness of the dialogue.”

The former NBA star stated that the creators should have emphasized more on the depiction of characters than charming people with visuals. Avatar: The Way of the Water turned out to be a messed up storyline that doesn’t blend in according to Jabbar.
