Contrary to popular belief, the K-pop phenomenon was neither teenagers being in their feels nor was it just limited to the music industry. The past couple of years have proven that K-pop was a wave strong enough to create a place for itself in a system that wasn’t even created to accommodate it.

BTS winning at the People’s Choice Awards despite announcing their hiatus and BLACKPINK’s Jisoo leaving behind Grammy-winning artists such as Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish in campaign rankings, all are testaments of the K-pop fever.

The past few years saw the shift of mainstream music from being entirely controlled by western artists to more diverse artists. As the K-pop fandom grew globally, people in the US, UK, and other western countries got their own taste of culture shock when they were acquainted with K-pop fans.

From watching fans buy stars for their idols to making stadiums and any props in their photos selling out in a matter of minutes, to say that the world was shocked would be an understatement.

However, it came as no surprise that the Cartier campaign led by Blackpink’s Jisoo was the second most influential this year.

While BLACKPINK is one of the most popular K-pop girl groups with most of their music videos hitting the most-watched title on YouTube, its eldest member Jisoo has a separate fanbase. Furthermore, the singer is known as a Global icon, and the recent campaign rankings prove why.

From K-pop icon to ‘Global Icon’

The 26-year-old singer has people falling for her left and right through her charms and talent. At the Paris Fashion Week Spring/ Summer which was attended by fashion Moghuls from round the world, Jisoo has named the most influential celebrity with a media value of $22.4 Million EMV and a 7% engagement rate as analyzed by SponsorUnited.

The Cartier campaign headed by Kim Jisoo garnered 55.4 Million engagements, falling second only to Same Old Love singer Selena Gomez. The How You Like That singer surpassed Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, and even Rihanna.

Cartier’s decision to have Jisoo as the face of its campaign was like an emerald on the necklace. Moreover, Cartier is not the only luxury brand that knows Jisoo’s astronomical influence and loves her for it. The singer is also the regional ambassador for Dior cosmetics since 2019. And as a matter of fact, yes, the daughter of Dior’s director did shed a few tears when greeted by Jisoo’s ethereal beauty earlier this year.
