As we wrap up this whirlwind of a year, it is exciting to see who among the many powerful artists that emerged this year wins the various end-of-the-year titles. So, TikTok, the home to all crazy dances and trends, just revealed its music artist of the year 2022. Given the fact that 720 million users used the app in just this year, it is interesting to know which artist managed to get everyone dancing to their tune. And let’s just say it was time that Lizzo gets the praise she deserves. And she did but sadly, the same can’t be said about Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish.

Lizzo with her upbeat song “About That Time” was named TikTok’s music artist of the year 2022 and we have no sayers. Her making it to the top is not shocking given how it got millions “tryna bring out the fabulous.” However, the fact that neither AMA’s Artist of the Year Taylor Swift nor Oscar winner Billie Eilish made it to the top 7 list was definitely shocking.

Before we get into this heated debate, here is a gentle reminder that TikTok is a social media platform mostly synonymous with viral dances and relatable videos. And the “Tiktok Music Artist of the Year” is given based on the artist’s activity, engagement, and, of course, a song that went viral. And Lizzo, with her 26 million followers and weekly live streams, checks all three categories.

Other top artists on the list were Bella Porch, Bad Bunny, Charlie Puth, Doja Cat, Selena Gomez, and Nessa Barrett. All these artists have managed to create havoc on TikTok this year. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift may have dropped a chart-topping album this year, but her engagements with fans on TikTok were PR etiquettes at the most.

But given how she is receiving the Artist of the Year title at almost every award show this year, we are sure she wouldn’t mind not being on the Top 7 on TikTok.

However, it is understandable that fans are questioning why Eilish is not in the top 7. The Ocean Eyes singer secured the No. 9 place on the list. This may be due to the fact that although the singer has 46.7 Million followers on TikTok, none of her songs trended this year. Eilish also did not win even one of the seven Grammys she was nominated for, and fans are calling it a snub.
