Following Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to California. However, their stay of over two weeks in the United Kingdom to participate in the Queen’s service has sparked a lot of controversies. Since the couple has once again caught people’s attention, royal experts and correspondents are digging into all the past incidents.

The former American actress has been often put in a bad light for separating the Duke of Sussex from the House of Windsor. In his upcoming book Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind the Crown, the royal author Valentine Low revealed what palace insiders think of the former working royal.

Meghan Markle wanted to be like Beyonce in UK

Valentine Low reflected on what an insider told him about the intentions of Meghan Markle upon marrying Prince Harry. The author claimed that the Duchess of Sussex wanted to achieve the same stature as the American singer-songwriter, Beyonce, after her marriage to the royal Prince.

However, reality hit hard on Meghan Markle. She realized that the royal rules bound her life. And gave her little to no freedom to do as she pleases. The author also believes it to be one of the reasons behind Meghan and Harry’s exit from the family. 

“I think Meghan thought she was going to be the Beyoncé of the UK. There were so many rules that were so ridiculous that she couldn’t even do the things that she could do as a private individual,” a palace insider told Low as quoted by the Times of London. 

Further in the book, it is also mentioned how Queen Elizabeth II was particular about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex abiding by all the restrictions and rules of the royal family if they wanted to continue working for the Palace. The late monarch was upset with their decision to create a life away from the United Kingdom. However, she was unwilling to compromise on the rules and regulations for the working royals.
