“Before that, I was like a lunch-pail actor”: Ryan Reynolds Reveals Why Working on Deadpool Was a Double-Edged Sword for Him

Even though there are a dozen of roles that Ryan Reynolds has given life to, there is only one that we remember the most. Well, we do not even have to make you guess it, as it is indeed a movie that we all love equally, Deadpool. And that is why it is nothing but obvious to see Ryan talk about Deadpool and Deadpool 2 when he talks about his career. In a recent episode of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, we saw Ryan talk a lot about his role as Deadpool and how it was a double-edged sword.

It all began when David Letterman brought up the topic and said how Deadpool “is self-referential and snarky. And it’s breaking the fourth wall.” He said how it satisfies the criteria of why such movies are successful. He even called the movie a Golden Corral, but Ryan quickly pointed out they were two steps away from it and we’re actually entering a Denny’s.

The host also asked if it is in fact Ryan in the suit, or if it is someone else. “It’s me. Unless someone’s doing, you know, a triple-backflip in pike position off of a building, it’s me.” However, Ryan revealed he sat in the room with a microphone to re-voice jokes or moments or things that had cultural relevance 6 months later.

Ryan revealed he was mostly proud of what he did with Deadpool. “It was a time in my life when I wanted more authorship of my destiny,The Adam Project actor said. He said that before that he was like a lunch-pail actor. But it was also scary for him because if the entire thing failed, it was on him as well. Hence, he called it a “double-edged sword”.
