When James Cameron was making a movie revolving around an indigenous planet in Pandora after the giant success of Titanic in 1997, anyone would laugh at the thought of the movie becoming one of the greatest ever to be made. And they would laugh even harder if you were to tell them that this Sci-Fi movie would leave behind the budget of Titani,c a movie consisting of stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet with a production of a whopping 200 million dollars, considered to be then, the most expensive movie ever made. But James Cameron believed in his vision.

He kept postponing the release of his science fiction masterpiece from 1999 until technology was suitable enough for it to be made. And in 2009, when this animated movie with a budget estimated to be somewhere between $280 million to $310 million became the second highest-grossing movie and remained so for a decade, it all paid off. But will this also prove true in the case of Avatar: The Way of Water is a tricky question, but it already seems to surpass the budget of Henry Cavill’s Justice League.

For the unversed, the DC movie is one of the most expensive movies to ever have been made, and Avatar: The Way of Water has just surpassed it. To make a profit, the movie will have to earn at least a billion at the box office, and every time ‘at least’ and ‘billion’ are put together, it is never a good combo. While making billions at the box office was an attainable task before the pandemic, but is very difficult post-pandemic. However, considering how Avatar managed to turn the tide in the past, there is no saying for sure that its sequel won’t be doing the same.
