Ahead of ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5, Music Supervisor Reveals Metallica’s Special Connection With the Show
Weaving enchanting nostalgia and supernatural adventures into audiences’ hearts, Stranger Things became one of the most-watched Netflix shows. With simply irresistible visuals backed by classic retro tunes, its impact goes beyond the screen by bringing people of all ages closer. In particular, the music that is featured on the show is one of the most significant parts of its charm. And the same has won the show many accolades as well.
In 2020, the show’s music supervisor, Nora Felder, won an Emmy award for her work. She now shares how the most iconic moment from the previous season was assisted by the metal rock band, Metallica.

In an interview with Variety, Nora Felder opened up about the impact the band and its members had on the show. According to her, in the scene when Eddie Munson delivered “the ultimate rock performance of his life”, a band member’s son assisted in “the guitar parts.” The band, who are big fans of the series, sent their bassist’s son, Ty Trujillo to create that “dramatic moment.”
Undoubtedly, one of the most iconic scenes from Season 4 was Eddie’s rendition of ‘Master of Puppets’. Last month, Felder made it clear how for that scene, Metallica’s track was the first and only choice. As one of the most recognized metal bands of this era, no wonder Metallica was the perfect choice.
Last year, Metallica reciprocated the love that Stranger Things showed them in the most legendary way possible. And of course, their gesture went viral on social media.
The Upside Down duet that rocked the world
When Eddie Munson climbed atop a van to declare “Chrissy, this is for you”, the performance that followed gave fans ‘literal chills.’ Making that moment all the more exhilarating, Metallica did an online duet with that clip from the show. Netflix posted it to their Twitter (now X) page revealing that they along with the show’s fans were “losing” their minds over this.
