After ‘Here,’ Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis Shook Hands For Long Awaited Movie Sequel
When one hears the names of Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis together, they perhaps get a flashback of at least four films that they did together that went on to become a blockbuster. For all we know, Hanks to Zemeckis is what Arnold Schwarzenegger is to James Cameron. Whenever the duo works together, we are certain to get something interesting.
The Cast Away director and actor are currently working on their 5th movie together, named Here. However, what interests us is the announcement of their sixth movie together. It is a sequel to their most beloved, 1994 movie, which not only has a cult classic following but has won 6 Academy awards including Best Picture and Best Actor for Tom Hanks. Yes! You guessed it right. They are finally collaborating for the much-awaited and long-planned sequel to their comedy-drama, Forrest Gump.
The news notably came via Giant Freakin Robot, which states that the production process will begin as soon as they wrap up their current project. The sequel was notably in talks since as early as 2001 when Eric Roth penned the script with Winston Groom’s 1995 follow-up novel Gump and Co. as his source material. However, following the September 11 attacks, they did not proceed with the plan and found it “irrelevant” to create the sequel then. But it seems like their thoughts have changed over time and almost two decades later, Tom Hanks will once again play the role of Forrest Gump.
