6 Trivia You Need to Know About Netflix’s War Movie ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’
A heavy teaser of the new Netflix war drama All Quiet on the Western Front has been dropped. It will be high on blood-shed, action scenes, and emotions, with its anti-war message. The heavy-grade project would leave us reminiscing about humanity’s dark past and the need for peace, especially in today’s situation.
The Edward Berger direction casts Albrecht Schuch as Stanslaus Katczinsky and Aaron Hilmer as Mortiz Klaus amongst others. It is based on Maria Remarque’s bestselling novel of the same name. The German movie will premiere on Netflix on 12 September 2022 in the English language. So while it releases, here is some trivia.

Trivia on All Quiet on Western Front, a Netflix original
Here are 6 trivia on the upcoming German war drama.
1) All Quiet on Western Front is the third rendition since the first film in 1930 by Lewis Milestone, followed by Delbert Mann’s second in 1979. The first one got Universal studios their first Best Picture in Oscars. In fact, one of the iconic shots of a hand at the end of the movie is of Lewis himself.
The 2022 movie is set to be the most expensive German movie for the streaming giant Netflix.
2) Erich Maria Remarque, the author, wrote the book based on some of his experiences during his time in the German military during World War 1. It depicts the horrific events that took place during the war, and the challenges faced by the soldiers during and after the war.
3) The newest film is not to be considered as a remake of the other two, but rather a re-adaptation of the book. This film is not technically positioned as a remake of an older movie but as a re-adaptation of the book All Quiet on Western Front. And it was scripted with that consideration by scriptwriters Ian Stokell and Lesley Paterson
4) In 2004, Roger Donaldson of Dante’s Peak was to direct the movie. Australian Actor Travis Fimmel of Warcraft was to play the role of Stanislaus Katczinsky
5) Roger Donaldson was to work along with Mimi Leder, director of On the Basis of Sex. But since the movie took several years, the directors changed for reason unknown. But Ian Stokell and Lesley Paterson’s script remained.
6) The upcoming movie has got an Official submission from Germany for the ‘Best International Feature Film’ category of the 95th Academy Awards in 2023.

Director Berger said this about the movie, “Our view of war is dominated by sorrow and shame, by devastation and guilt.” Former Germans inhibiting in the USA were also included in the movie to make up for the number of required extras.
These were people that moved to the US after World War I. Some of the scenes are shot in the former military zone of Prague’s Ralsko, Czech Republic.
