Netflix Might Have a Chance at the Oscars This Year With Alejandro Iñárritu’s Upcoming Comedy BARDO

After Jane Campion took home the Oscar award for Best Director for her work in The Power of The Dog, Netflix is set to release another film that is going to give all Oscar nominees a run for their money the next year. Netflix has acquired the distributing rights of BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths. The film is created by Revenant filmmaker and Academy award-winning director, Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

What is BARDO going to be about?

The topic of existentialism is one that we have been seeing in all forms of art for quite some time now. We often come across this topic in a very dark and serious setting. Some popular examples are movies like The Meaning of Life or literature like Franz Kafka’s works, the latest Netflix Original, Russian Doll. But, BARDO is going to take a tale of existential crisis and present it to viewers in a humorous manner.

This film paints a nostalgic story of a great personal journey through the colors of comedy. It features the life of a popular Mexican journalist. This man returns home only to realize he is not as sure as thought he was about his identity. His familial relationships and past continue to bother him as he tries to move forward in life. Finally, the future comes down to reconciling with the past and finding answers in the same.

When will BARDO appear on Netflix?

According to The Wrap, Iñárritu has completed the shooting of this “deeply personal” film in his hometown, Mexico City. After the shooting, the project is currently seeing its post-production days. The completion will take place will take place by fall. The film will appear in theatres and subsequently on the streaming service at the end of the year.

Being directed and created by Alejandro Iñárritu, fans are expecting the film to be no less than the precedents this director has set. The bar certainly is high for both Alejandro and Netflix, after Birdman or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance and the Netflix Original The Power of the Dog. Nonetheless, fans are expecting BARDO to surpass both these amazing titles.
