Kanye West is not only a collaboration king but also a sampling king. The ‘Donda’ singer is appreciated for mixing a number of samples, new and old, to create new music. It not only leads to good beats, but unknowingly adds a pinch of nostalgia to them. But what is music sampling?

The term is used in the music industry when an artist uses a part or parts of a tune of an existing song to create a new one. Proper permission is required to do so. West has sampled from a mixed bag of both rap and rock artists including Elton John, The Dells, Blackjack, etc. His Twitter fan page shared a clip with the song ‘A House is Not a Home’ playing. Singer Luther Vandross released it back in 1981 and it still remains a classic.

Ye apparently sampled the music for his 2003 superhit collaboration. He and Jamie Foxx produced the Twista song ‘Slow Jamz’ for the album ‘Kamikaze’. The lyrics of the song itself mentioned several artists, including Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, Anita Baker, New Edition, etc.

During the initial years, Ye was known more for his production skills than for rapping. But considering the number of samples he uses, West has been sued for illegal sampling as well. Regardless, fans took notice of the Vandross sample and appreciate Ye over it.

Fans back Kanye West for sampling a 1981 Luther Vandross song

When a Twitter user asked which sample has been used the best by an artist, a clip showed the Vandross song sampled by Ye. Twitterati are now appreciating the modern rapper for reusing an old classic. “That’s why he’s the best,” said one about Ye over his well-done use of samples.

Another fan always wanted Ye to sample it, unaware that it was already done.

A fan stated how Ye’s ‘Life of the Party’ song is a better example. However, Ye was sued by Boogie Down Productions for sampling the 1986 track ‘South Bronx’. He apparently asked for permission verbally, but went ahead despite not completing the process.
