What happened when a fan realized Kanye West was skipping Coachella 2022?
Ye West was one of the many musicians set to return to perform at Coachella back in 2022. Fans from around the world were prepared with the expensive show, hotels, and flight tickets. One of them was also Ghana’s content creator, Ameyaw Debrah. Being a fan, he spent more than $4000 to attend the Coachella festival, until news of West backing hit him. “It’s crazy,” he stated in a video uploaded on YouTube while breaking down the costs.
Now, the Coachella dates were fixed for two weekends, April 15-17 and 15-22. He explained how even budget hotels around the festival ground went up as high as $400 a night. Showing the bills, he confessed how disheartening it was to spend such a big amount and have your favorite artist back out at the last moment. The blogger was even considering suing West for backing out like that.
But there were several reasons to explain the rapper’s absence from Coachella.

West was going through his divorce phase and meltdowns back in 2022. The reason for his backing out was eventually given as mental pressure and the need to take a break. Plus, there was also massive backlash due to his online behavior, which likely put the music festival in a risky position.
He is known for being unpredictable and speaking out of the script. But the Ghanaian blogger argued that those who want to still see him should be allowed to make their own choices after paying so much. Regardless, he hoped that other replacements would make it up for West’s absence.
