“It would be so big”, Director Cody Simmon Revealed How Drake Once Wanted to Be Part of Kanye West’s ‘Jeen-Yuhs’ Documentary
Drake once wanted to be a part of Kanye West’s documentary. The two have shared a long history of being friends and foes over music, competition, or any personal feuds. Both stars have massive careers and fan following, making them some of the highest earners in music. But despite their rifts, they have also admired each other’s musical talents in the past.
Now Ye was a producer long before becoming a rapper. His journey from that to becoming a billionaire rapper has been witnessed by the world. But nothing likely explained it all the way his Jeen-Yuhs documentary did. Despite being a competitor, the ‘Hot Line Bling’ singer wanted to be a part of it.

Whether good or bad, when Ye does something, it makes noise. Even fellow rappers cannot deny the impact and influence that he holds on the masses. So when Drake saw the end result of Jeen Yuhs‘s documentary, he wanted to be a part of it too. Director Cody Simmons revealed on the Connection is Magic with Shulman podcast about the Canadian rapper’s interest in it. Drake apparently texted, “ask Coodie if I can narrate it.”
It all started with teasers of the documentary being sent out to certain people, and Drake was one of them. He messaged Ye who asked Simmons, and the conversation led to a public poll about it. Drake tried to convince how it was a good and big idea that should not be affected by rivalry. But West took a public poll and fans clearly did not go on with the idea. Simmons eventually narrated Jeen-Yuhs, and the result made Ye realize it was the right decision.
Today, it remains one of his most talked about documentaries that won a lot of appreciation.

Emmy-nominated director Cody Simmons had always directed songs for Ye, but gained an even wider appreciation for Jeen-Yuhs narration. The 3 part documentary showed West’s early years as a producer, moments with his late mother Donda West, and his creating music with other rappers.
Ye and Drake never ended up making music or hugging things out thereafter. But the incident still came as a surprise, knowing their rivalry. They still diss each other through music occasionally, much to fans’ amusement.
