Princess Diana was and is still admired for her beauty, charisma, and charitable work. She used her status in the British royal family for the good of society and worked actively to raise awareness about issues like HIV/AIDS, cancer, and landmines. Her natural humanitarianism earned her the title of ‘People’s Princess’. But now it seems like we have another person in town to earn the title who is not a royal but a rapper.

The Bronx rapper Ice Spice rose to fame with her song ‘Boy’s a Liar’ with PinkPantheress going viral all over TikTok. The rapper rose to fame with the release of her album ‘Munch (Feelin’ U)’ in August 2022. Ever since then, there has been no looking back for the artist. With Drake too playing it on his channel SiriusXM and Sound 42, the song became an anthem for many that time. She has received so much fame that she is now even compared to the late Princess Diana.

Ice Spice’s latest release ‘Princess Diana’ along with Nicki Minaj was loved and adored by her Spice Cabinet (she calls her fans collectively this and individually Munchkins). Ever since the release, the Spice Cabinet christened the rapper as ‘the People’s Princess’. In an interview with Billboard, she shared how she was initially confused with the comparison but eventually succumbed to it owing to how iconic the late Princess was. “At first, I was confused. I was like, ‘Um, Princess Diana? Out of everybody?’ But [then] I was like, ‘F–k it, she’s iconic,”’ shared the 23-year-old rapper.

The song, post-it release on April 14, 2023, became no. 1 on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart. The rap princess also made headlines for her first-ever Met Gala appearance this year.
