The Weeknd’s The Idol aired on HBO in June and the fans were not that big of a fan of the singer-turned-actor’s performance. But the multi-talented ‘Blinding Lights’ singer has been juggling all his artistic talents. The Canadian ended the US leg of his music tour last year, being a major success. With the UK leg of the tour starting on July 12 this year, The Idol star has broken the record that was previously held by legendary singer-songwriter Michael Jackson.

His ongoing music tour, After Hours Til Dawn Tour, broke the record for the highest-grossing tour ever by any black artist. Amassing a collection of $350,000,000, he is now the frontrunner beating MJ. Previously, Michael Jackson held the baton for the Bad World Tour, with record earnings of $311,000,000, adding inflation. The US leg of this same tour contributed to about $148,000,000 in sales and sold more than a million tickets.

This tour is definitely a silver lining in the ‘Starboy’ singer’s career right now. When the first two episodes aired at Cannes, ‘The Idol’ Hit a 10% low on Rotten Tomatoes. The fans were not very excited either. But despite having a not-so-fruitful acting gig with co-star Lily-Rose Depp, The Weeknd won the hearts of his fans with his music.

The Weeknd’s Army cheers him on Twitter for raking in the dough

This is not the first time The Weeknd is shattering records. The singer-actor holds 22 Juno Awards – the 2nd highest ever, 20 Billboard awards – the fifth highest ever, and 4 Grammys. He also recently received 40 million streams, more than the Grammys. As per the database of ContentArchives.org, the pop singer has reportedly performed in 526 concerts. The latest concert performed by him was on July 8, alongside Kaytranada and Mike Dean.

While the Twitterati cheered Tesfaye for breaking the record for the highest-grossing tour by a Black artist, others highlighted the stark comparison between music tours now and back during the King of Pop, MJ’s, times. Nonetheless, The Weeknd fans are delighted with this.

The Kermit frog meme rolled in for The Weeknd’s record too.

Others compared how concert tickets were priced way differently before. Meanwhile, the fans were also hit with nostalgia, remembering MJ being The Weeknd’s idol.
