The Queen’s Gambit is an excellent Netflix series to binge-watch, and fans are wondering whether season 2 is a thing. Let’s check it out.

As you probably know, The Queen’s Gambit is one of the best series on Netflix right now. It’s about a young chess player who struggles a great deal to get where she is. Having debuted on Netflix in October 2020, it quickly rose to fame, both among the fans and the critics. The Queen’s Gambit sits on an astonishing 8.6 IMDb rating, and it also has a huge fan base. However, it only has seven episodes in its single season on Netflix. Fans do not have enough of the series, and that’s why they wonder if there’s going to be a season 2 for The Queen’s Gambit.

Well, Netflix hasn’t officially renewed the series for season 2. They haven’t canceled the series, either. So, we don’t know anything official right now. However, the remarks from the cast and crew make it kind of apparent that a new season for The Queen’s Gambit is unlikely.

The series is billed as a “limited” one, so a second season is not very possible. Although we sometimes see new seasons for limited series, The Queen’s Gambit does not seem to be among them. That’s because its ending was satisfactory with no big cliffhangers. That being said, the crew and the cast are not completely opposed to the idea of a second season.

The beloved lead actress Anya Taylor-Joy isn’t against the idea of a new season, but she thinks season 1 ended in quite a nice place. Here are her thoughts about the possibility of a new season, as per T&C:

“I adore the character, and I would certainly come back if I was asked to, but I do think we leave Beth in a good place,” the actress said. “I think the rest of her life will surely be an adventure as well, but in the quest that she goes on in this to find some form of peace, just some form of being able to be happy with who she is,” she continued. The actress thinks the series ends in a nice place.

The executive producer of The Queen’s Gambit had something to say, too. Here’s what William Horberg said to Deadline:

“It’s wonderful to know that people loved the show where they want to spend more time with these characters; we never envisioned it that way. We felt that the series had a satisfying endpoint and we’d allow the audience to fill in the spaces as to what happens next for Beth Harmon.”

We don’t even know whether the new season is a certainty right now. It’s probably not. But if we assume Netflix decides to renew The Queen’s Gambit for season 2, we may expect a 2023 release date. Let’s hope Netflix suddenly decides to give us a new season of Beth’s story.
