The Witcher is one of the most popular titles around the world. The tales of a traveling monster hunter have been adapted into many forms of entertainment. Written and created by Polish fantasy writer Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher has been a global sensation with games, TV series, and movies. The books follow a monster hunter named Geralt of Rivia and his struggle against the Destiny itself.

Stories of Geralt of Rivia consist of six novels and fifteen short novels. The first books in the fantasy series refine Polish folk tales and retell them with more complex narratives. Though the writer started creating new stories for the protagonist and further expanded the universe.

After receiving critical acclaim, the books were adapted into a fantasy film called The Hexer. The film was directed by Marek Brodzki and starred Michal Zebrowski. The 2001 film is the first adaptation of The Witcher series on the screen. Here’s everything to know about it if you are a solid fan and wondering if it is on Netflix.

The original name of the film is Wiedzmin, which translates to Witcher in English. The film is about 130 minutes long and introduces the characters we know from the universe. Dandelino, Falwick, Renfri, Calanthe, Yennefer, Borch Three Jackdaws, Nenneke, Pavetta and many more are in the film.

Though there are a couple of problems regarding the movie. It came out as a film and then condensed into a TV series consisting of 13 episodes. Although it follows Geralt, his childhood, training and many other critical plots; it received very poor reviews from the viewers.

Both the film and the TV series were also criticized negatively by the writer, Andrzej Sapkowski.

The first Witcher movie is not on Netflix. This also applies to the 13-episodes long TV series. Both of these titles are not available to stream on the streaming service.

Well, that’s only natural considering how much Netflix is invested in The Witcher universe. The streaming giant has created a solid TV show starring talented names like Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra. They also released an anime film called The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. Moreover, the prequeL series The Witcher: Blood Origin is currently in the works.
