A man with a tattoo is watching Mickey Haller surf in the closing images of Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer season 1, and the books may disclose his identity. The Brass Verdict serves as the main inspiration for Season 1 of The Lincoln Lawyer. It does, however, steal some narrative elements from The Lincoln Lawyer book 1. And it appears that the Netflix version may go deeper into this in a possible season 2.

While the main narrative of Season 1 of The Lincoln Lawyer is around Mickey Haller’s defense of video game CEO Trevor Elliot, the background plots are as important.

Mickey Haller seeks down Gloria Dayton. Gloria is a critical witness who vanished during Jesus Menendez’s murder trial for Martha Renteria’s murder. Menendez, who Haller knew was innocent, was sentenced to life in prison after Dayton vanished.

When Dayton testifies during an appeal, she describes seeing the killer and knows he is a guy with a tattoo on his arm, which helps to release Menedez.

With the Martha Renteria case still open in the Netflix adaptation, it’s safe to assume that the man is Louis Ross Roulet or a variation of that character with a different name from the novels. The sight of Louis Roulet viewing Mickey Haller surf is more than simply a cliffhanger ending. It’s a big setup for how The Lincoln Lawyer may continue in season 2.

Roulet had been studying Mickey for over two years and recruited him, particularly because he had been the counsel for Jesus Menendez, according to Michael Connelly’s The Lincoln Lawyer.
