How Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons Happened to Work Together in Jane Campion’s ‘The Power of the Dog’
Anyone who has seen The Power of The Dog knows that one of the most crucial themes of the film has to be the relationship between Rose Gordon and George Burbank. Rose and George find each other in the most unimaginable scenario. But instantly seem to like each other.
In the film’s most poignant scene where Rose is teaching George how to waltz. Suddenly George is overwhelmed by emotions. Says, “I just want to say how nice it is not to be alone.”
Actors who play Rose and George, Kirsten Dunst, and Jesse Plemons are engaged in real life and have two young boys. Both the actors, just like their roles, have supported each other throughout their careers. And one even forced the other to do this film.

Jesse and Kirsten similar in many ways
Even though Jesse and Kirsten have been engaged for just five years. It looks like they are each other’s soulmates. Both have a similar kind of background in the industry. With them starting as child actors and diving into serious indie cinema later in their careers.
Over the years, both have started in some really amazing films. Jese has been a part of Breaking Bad, The Master, Bridge of Spies, Vice, The Irishman, I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Judas, and the Black Messiah. And worked with the likes of Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, and Paul Thomas Anderson.
Kirsten is a favorite of filmmaker Sofia Coppola and has worked with her in Beguiled and Marie Antoinette.
While talking about her partner and the experience of working with him, Kirsten said, “He’s my best friend,” “At the end of the day, to have somebody who really has your back so hard [has] meant everything.”
The Power of The Dog-not their first time working together
The two first worked on the anthology series Fargo. Jesse describes their meeting as “We trusted each other very quickly — that’s something that’s hard to come by,” Jesse says that working with Kirsten was easier than certain people.

Their work on Fargo earned them their debut Emmy nomination and now continuing on that streak their roles in The Power of The Dog are being nominated for Oscars.
Jesse was almost not going to be a part of the Netflix film. However, Kirsten persuaded him by saying, “‘It’s Jane Campion. You’re doing this.’”

We really hope that either or both should win an Oscar for their performance. As they are completely sublime in the film.
