Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney made their first and arguably biggest collaboration yet when they signed on to take over Wrexham AFC. In addition to the Deadpool star himself being on the field and stirring the crowd, more A-listers followed, so it is no wonder that people who work with the club took some time to take in all the Tinseltown glitter.
In an interview with Wales Online, Cody Froggatt, Wrexham’s photographer, opened up on how his first days at the club left him stunned. The sight was of some of the biggest names and A-listers from Hollywood and the football world descending to Wrexham. These appearances are much more frequent and pompous than those at other league clubs. “…you do get a bit star-struck,” admitted the photographer.
As the team made their way into new and unchartered territories such as a fairly well-concluded US Tour, the fans and townsfolk kept on scoring big. Huge names such as Reynolds’ long-time ‘frenemy’ and Deadpool 3 co-stars Hugh Jackman and Emma Corrin alongside Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell have been sighted in several of the club’s matches. However, the appearances became so frequent that for Frogatt as well as the townsfolk, “it just becomes a bit normal.”
Remarkably, Ryan Reynolds’ witty charm hinged on bringing attention to Wrexham paid off. The creative and marketing genius finally succeeded in bringing the spotlight to Wrexham.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s proposal to take over Wrexham saw approval by over 98 percent of the club’s board. Upholding their faith, the duo brought all the limelight to Wrexham. The club, which was left struggling to breathe its way out of the fifth tier of English football, made a striking comeback. In just two years of their takeover, the duo invested significantly. Covering better management, training facilities, stadiums, and a complete overhaul of the club, they left no stone unturned.
The result was Wrexham AFC making their way to the fourth tier of EFL after fifteen years! After nearly vanishing from its past existence and glory, the town of Wrexham revived itself. The celebrity sightings, Wrexham’s newfound highs, and the unparalleled fandom of Ryan Reynolds rebooted its economy. Now thriving, Wrexham and the success story of its co-owners have also been documented in two seasons of Welcome to Wrexham.
