Will Smith to Play an Antagonist Against Ryan Reynolds Pokémon in ‘Detective Pikachu 2’
One character who knew very early on that animated movies are a gold mine is Will Smith. The actor enjoyed among other box office successes two animated movies. But while staying true to his image as the Fresh Prince and always offering something new and worthwhile to fans, the musician-turned-actor has never played an antagonist. Smith did not get his hand dirty even after starring as a Deadshot in Suicide Squad. However, the path to redemption must be proving to be challenging as the actor is now digging for opportunities to bring out his bad side. And this has led him to a Ryan Reynolds-certified Pokemon movie.
The 54-year-old actor, after his last animated venture in 2019, might make his return to a very popular animated movie. One that his fans may have never expected him to play.

The previous Detective Pikachu surprised everyone and their mothers when it not only brought in a box office collection of $433.2 million but also left fans excited about a sequel. One that was confirmed even before Detective Pikachu was released in theaters. Now, 4 years after its release, Detective Pikachu 2 is looking for an actor to go up against Ryan Reynolds. And as per Giant Freaking Robot, Will Smith has been tapped to play the antagonist in Detective Pikachu 2.
An animated villain against an enthusiastic Pikachu is the closest he has ever come to playing a real antagonist. Even though he has made a fortune out of the Bad Boys franchise.
Will Smith’s reasons for association with the animated movie are unclear, unlike Reynolds. But now that the Academy-winning actor is in the talks for the role, fans are curious as to who will Ryan Reynold’s Pikachu be up against in the upcoming movie.
