Portraying a character demands actors to undergo numerous changes. From modifying physical attributes to immersing in the character’s demeanor, the actor’s craft involves a spectrum of adaptations. However, mastering different accents consistently proves to be one of the most formidable tasks. Despite a convincing performance, a misaligned accent has the potential to divert the audience’s attention from the craft.
Over the years, many artists, including Henry Cavill, Andrew Garfield, and Millie Bobby Brown, have mastered the art of switching British accents to American with finesse. And now another British actor, Tom Blyth, has joined the ranks of these performers, showcasing the ability to adopt an American accent.

Tom Blyth recently appeared on the talk show of Stephen Colbert, where the interviewer asked him about his American accent in the movie The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, which will hit the screens on 17th November in North America. Blyth’s secret of mastering his accent for Billy the Kid was very different from that of Millie Bobby Brown. Blyth shared that he initially developed a hybrid dialect for the character since Billy was an Irish immigrant. He then “layered in a dry, gravelly quality to his tone.” The 28-year-old added this quality to Billy’s tone, keeping in mind the environment in which the character grew up “which makes him sound more worn down than his years.”
