On the red carpet for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the new DC boss opened up about his DC project. James Gunn recently shared his expectations for the new Superman movie. The film is in development at Warner Bros. Fans saw Henry Cavill as their recent Superman. With Gunn’s upcoming film, Superman Legacy, the new DC boss wants a new face for the superhero instead of the British actor. Therefore, Gunn, who has experience directing superhero movies, expressed his take on the iconic character.

James Gunn recently attended the premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, where he excitement about seeing a new vision of Superman on screen. One that is different from what audiences have seen before. He said that he hopes the new film will bring something new and exciting to the character, rather than simply retreading the same storylines and themes. Gunn revealed the qualities he was looking for in the next Superman, as he would have to replace The Witcher star.

“The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has, but he’s also an alien,” revealed Gunn to Variety.

The Guardians of the Galaxy director said the new Superman needed to be somebody with kindness and compassion. Additionally, he would be like somebody who you want to give a hug. The new Superman movie is still in the early stages of development. It does not have a director or cast attached as of yet. Warner Bros. and DC expect the new Superman to be a major release with the potential to kick off a new era for the character on screen.

Who could play Superman replacing Henry Cavill?

The studio still has not found a new face for the iconic character. But Gunn once revealed he wanted a younger actor than Cavill. Because Superman Legacy will mark the beginning of the DCU, Gunn probably wants someone younger to stay with the franchise for a long time. 

Nevertheless, an ex-Superman star, Dylan Sprayberry, once expressed his wish to star in Superman Legacy. However, James Gunn has not talked about it. But overall, it seems James Gunn is excited about the possibilities that a new Superman movie could bring. As a director with experience in the superhero genre, he likely has a good sense of what makes these movies work. He seems to know what audiences are looking for.
