In the two years since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney acquired Wrexham AFC, a slew of changes have gone under the hammer. Following the image revamp through a docuseries was the duo’s over $12.4 million subsequent investments in overhauling the club’s infrastructure, deeming it worthy of being one of the teams that constantly enjoy the global limelight. However, as with any other business, there is always a flip side. The Welsh team management was recently under fire from its opponents over a set of statements.

In a recent exchange on X (formerly Twitter), a war of words ensued, with the opposition taking a call on Wrexham’s approach with their fans.

The Hollywood duo did not hesitate to splurge $2.5 million on acquiring Wrexham AFC back in November 2020. Staying true to their visions, numerous changes followed. Among the many highlights so far, a fairly productive US Tour and a fifteen-year-high in the EFL stand out. Amidst all of this, Accrington Stanley lashed out at Wrexham over their decision to cut ticket prices by five euros for the returning game. In a tweet, the Welsh giant’s opposition lashed out saying, “When costs are already high, Wrexham, the last thing football needs is stupid, mistimed statements”.

The remarks come as part of Wrexham’s promise to account for an increase in ticket prices by their opponents. The two league games between them will take place at Accrington Stanley’s Wham Stadium and Wrexham’s SToK Cae Ras. The Reynolds-McElhenney administration pledged to not increase their costs at the home game, drawing the ire of the opponents. The move on Wrexham’s part, however, was at the behest of their fans’ interests. Regardless, it did not sit well with the opponents.

Close on the heels of it, another episode mislabeled popular football clubs in the UK by a huge margin. The resulting error turned Wrexham into a laughing stock, leaving the co-owners red-faced. Additionally, these ‘errors’ also found their way into reviews. But none of these errors seem to come in the way of the club’s on-field performance.
