Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are the power couples of Tinseltown. They are not only incredibly gorgeous but are also at the peak of their careers. The couple never fails to brighten their fans’ day with their adorable social media banter. However, the fact that Reynolds is the ex-husband of Scarlett Johansson always seems to slip people’s minds. Reynolds and Johansson tied the knot in 2008 and their marriage was short-lived, ending after two years. 

Unlike his current relationship, Reynolds was relatively private about his relationship with Johansson and kept it away from the spotlight. Therefore, fans were not very aware of what went wrong with the couple until a close source spilled the beans on the matter back in 2010.

The couple started secretly dating around 2007 and celebrated their union in a private ceremony on Vancouver Island. They announced their split in a statement with E! News and said that they were ending their marriage with “love and kindness”. Though both the actors kept quiet about the reason behind their divorce, the internet started flooding with rumors and speculations. However, a source put the speculations to rest in 2010 after revealing to InTouch Weekly (via Daily Mail) how the couple’s divorce was because of their “strong-willed and stubborn” nature. 

The source further revealed that the couple did not complement each other as Johansson was more independent, while Reynolds was “an overbearing control freak”. Reynolds was more of a “traditional” who wanted the Lucy actress to be available for him whenever he wanted. This became troublesome for the actress who was done with the double standards. Eventually, these differences resulted in a “lack of warmth” between the former couple and they ended up divorcing each other in 2010. 

Despite their split, the couple never spoke ill of each other and even went for a friendly meal post-divorce.

Daniel Richtman’s 2021 claims about Marvel preventing the two from working together in the MCU because of the strained relationship, raised many questions. Fans quickly started to speculate that the ex-couples were not on good terms with each other. However, Reynolds and Johansson kept their quiet on the matter. Though the couple never discussed their relationship, the 38-year-old actress told during Gwyneth Paltrow‘s “Goop” podcast that Reynolds “is a good guy”. 

Even Reynolds shared with Detail how grateful he was to have been in a relationship with his ex-wife who remained “on the high road in every regard”. Though the media never got their hands on the couple’s wedding pictures, they surely circulated their pictures from the Blue Ribbon Restaurant all over the internet. Months after their divorce, the couple was in the same place at the same time. They decided to head out for a “friendly meal”, as per People. The stars may not be very close friends, but from what it seems, they do not hold any grudges for each other either.
