Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham Team Has a System of Fines to Uphold Player Discipline
The powerhouse partnership of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney was the driving force that reshaped the fate of Wrexham AFC. Guiding the underdogs into the spotlight was no small feat for these Hollywood heavyweights. However, every ounce of their effort paid off with the team reclaiming its place in EFL League Two after a 15-year absence. This journey was not easy for the team and required hard work and rigorous discipline. To uphold that discipline among the players, the team has found a foolproof solution.
Wrexham AFC has a list of fines assigned for different mistakes and instances of indiscipline that the players must pay.

Phil Parkinson, the disciplinarian manager of the Red Dragons, has a set list of “club fines” for the team members. Paul Mullin in his new autobiography, Paul Mullin: My Wrexham Story, shared that this list “is up on the changing-room door” of the club. Each fine had a different monetary amount and covered a range of missteps. To inject a bit of fun into the process, if a player was charged with a small fine they must spin a roulette wheel to give “a little something extra.”
The wheel acted like a game of chance with both fortunate and unfortunate outcomes. It can make a player slip away from having to pay anything. But it can also bind them to get “shower gels” for the entire team. There is also a dice in the play and every number represents something the players must give up. In the worst-case scenario, a player may have to pull a Jason Cummings and do a “silent disco” on the ground wearing just his underpants.
It is not clear if Reynolds had a role in setting these rules, although they do sound like something he could have had a hand in. However, he and Rob McElhenney did have an “official rule” for the celebrities attending their match.

Wrexham AFC did not have a smooth run. The team faced its fair share of challenges before securing victory in the National League. Given Reynolds and McElhenney’s celebrity status, many stars from Tinsel Town attended the matches. Despite the star-studded support, the owners feared that the presence of famous faces might be more of a curse than a blessing. This fear stemmed from the fact that the team was having a series of unsuccessful playoff attempts.
This led the owners to come up with an “unofficial rule” of not inviting any celebrities. During the RobRyanRed podcast in June, McElhenney and Reynolds revealed that both of them did not “stick” to this rule as the team delivered exceptional performances in their matches, with or without the presence of celebrities. And with the team’s disciplinary standards in place, there is no question about how the Dragons did it.
