Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s Wrexham Run Into a Nightmare as MK Dons Spoil Nationals Comeback Party
It was meant to be a big day for Wrexham AFC, the Welsh football club that garnered attention last year when Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney purchased it with the goal of making it a “global powerhouse”. After spending 15 years in the National League, the Red Dragons finally made their return to the English Football League with a home game against MK Dons on Saturday. The fans were filled with excitement. The owners were visibly pleased with the electrifying atmosphere at the Racecourse Ground.
Amidst the presence of many Hollywood stars like Hugh Jackman, a big showdown was supposed to happen. However, things didn’t go as planned for Wrexham.

Wrexham faced a ruthless MK Dons side that spoiled their comeback party with a thrilling 5-3 victory. The game got off to a rough start for Wrexham when defender Eoghan O’Connell accidentally scored an own goal in the sixth minute. The situation worsened for the home team as MK Dons striker Mohamed Eisa extended their lead to 2-0 in the minute with a precise finish, from a Jonathan Leko cross. Wrexham, however, did make an effort to make a comeback.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s team found a glimmer of hope in the 42nd minute when Jacob Mendy, the wing-back, scored an incredible goal from outside the box. However, their chances of turning the game were shattered in the second half as MK Dons came out strong and quickly scored two goals, putting the game out of Wrexham’s reach.
Despite that, with determination, Wrexham managed to score two consolation goals towards the end through Anthony Forde and Jordan Davies. Unfortunately, it was a little too late for Wrexham as they suffered a tough defeat in their first League Two match. Despite the loss, the co-owners will now look to come back stronger.
However, this defeat does not mark the end of the road for Wrexham AFC. The team will now look to improve on their shortcomings. Meanwhile, co-owner Ryan Reynolds has other spots to fix as well.
Ryan Reynolds and Co. face challenges in their other ventures too
Ryan Reynolds needs a bit of polish on his projects as of late. It was recently reported that the Canadian star’s investment at Alpine F1 is yet to bear fruits. Despite the massive amount put in by the Reynolds-led consortium, the team has big flaws to fix. As with Wrexham, Alpine too is yet to mark a breakthrough. As such, it is time for Reynolds to start fixing the loose ends to his ventures.
