Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney Land Major Breakthrough in Their Quest for a Significant Wrexham Overhaul
A story that defies all odds to stand tall is always one worthy of being recalled. In their long history, the Welsh football team of Wrexham AFC had lost their footing until a Hollywood takeover came calling. Trailblazing pioneers birthed out of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney rushed to the scene and revived not only the languishing football club but also the entirety of the town on the verge of losing itself to oblivion. In the years that followed, a lot has changed for Wrexham and the co-owners are on the pursuit of more.
The prospect of acquiring all of Wrexham’s assets remained a pipe dream for the co-owners. That was until an opening took shape today.

One fall day in November 2020, a $2.5 million deal passed Wrexham AFC onto the hands of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Ever since, the duo has worked tirelessly for the upliftment of the club. From landing a US tour to revamping major amenities, Wrexham has gone significant overhaul. However, one large part of the deal – the ownership of the Racecourse Ground, still eluded the stars. In a significant breakthrough, the Wrexham Supporters Trust announced that it had “unanimously approved in principle” the consideration of the lease.
Long embroiled in legal formalities, the transfer of the SToK Racecourse was a part of the initial agreement. The agreement, after its final approval, will grant the club exclusive access to the home team for 25 years to come. The restructuring is part of at least $2.6 million worth of infrastructure upgrades. Additionally, the team’s recent wins and movement to EFL’s fourth tier entitled the club to a £1.1 million payout. Hence, a stadium acquisition would hoist its laurels further up the mast.
The recent news comes close on the heels of the Welsh side, becoming a ‘laughing stock’ owing to its most popular documentary.

Season one of Welcome to Wrexham shot the Red Dragons up in the global spotlight while also landing Ryan Reynolds his first-ever Emmy nomination. The well-received documentary narrated the tales and laurels of the Hollywood pair’s struggles and success story with Wrexham. However, it landed in hot soup recently over its recent episodes coming in the line of fire over glaring inaccuracies.
One of the episodes featured an AI-generated image prominently masquerading as a ‘historic’ photo. It came close on the heels before another one was in the ring of mockery over mislabeled locations of prominent clubs in the UK. Left red-faced, the team shrugged it off with its recent wins in the FA Cup as it looks to cement a proper story for a potential third season.
