Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney Deprived From Being the Source of Wrexham AFC’s Hollywood Fame by British Columnist
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have done nothing short of miraculous for the Wrexham AFC club, or so the chants say. Despite the Canadian actor being the face of a gazillion characters, no one pegged him or McElhenney to be successful football owners. While the owners depicted through their Welcome to Wrexham docuseries how the revival of Wrexham AFC is not just theirs to celebrate, famous British columnist Ian Herbert has further reiterated it.
Bearing the same sincerity that Reynolds held in his eyes while watching the Ottawa Senators, the columnist applauds the two owners for their dedication to revamping his hometown football team, but he does not give them all the credit. As per Ian Herbert from The Daily Mail, if not for the small yet strong community of Wrexham town, “there would quite simply be no Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds at Wrexham today.”

Herbert highlighted through his conversations with the locals how despite the club having been what Reynolds described as a “sleeping giant” for years, there is an eminent pride on their faces upon its mention. While Reynolds and McElhenney may be the Hollywood pioneers on paper, the Wrexham community is a Hollywood dream town come to life, without which its owners would be pulling all the stops, to no avail.

The rise of the Welsh football club was not on a single bingo card of this decade. And neither was Reynolds’ foray into football. But in the most beautiful of plot twists, they have come together and the Wrexham community has only worked to facilitate their growth. To celebrate this, the locals make sure to decorate the streets with Wrexham AFC flags, no matter what the occasion. And they fill the stadium with cheers for the players, come what may.
If the team continues to play in EFL like it has done up until now, the community is likely to kiss the ground that Reynolds and McElhenney walk on. But if it were up to Ian Herbert, things would be the other way round.
