The Red Dragons are on fire! Wrexham AFC, the football club from Wales co-owned by Hollywood celebrities Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, has secured its first victory in the EFL League Two after a 15-year-long drought. After languishing in the fifth tier of the league, the club is looking to rise from its ashes. The win has brought the club closer to the fans and even closer to the global spotlight that they have already been receiving.

Wrexham AFC defeated Walsall 4-2 on Tuesday night, in front of a jubilant home crowd at the Racecourse Ground. The win was a huge boost for the club, which made it to the EFL after fifteen years of arduous wait. The victory comes at a crucial point for the team which lost and drew its earlier two matches.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who are both famous actors, producers, and entrepreneurs, congratulated the team and the fans on social media. The Deadpool actor shared snippets on his Instagram posts and stories, morale-boosting his team for the journey ahead. Meanwhile, McElhenney also tweeted: “First league win!!! Congrats to all!!!”

Fans wasted no time in expressing their thanks and admiration for the owners, who have injected a sense of hope and enthusiasm into the club. Alongside, they also commended the players, who exhibited determination and resolve to conquer their rivals. Scoring goals for the team were Jordan Davies, Jake Hyde, Luke Young, and Kwame Thomas, all of whom successfully found the back of the net in the second half.

Thanks to the successful teamwork done by the Wrexham players, the team will live to keep fighting for its dream. Especially since the owners keep adding to their plans of making Wrexham a glorious success.

From the third-oldest football club in the world and a town on the brink of oblivion to a well-oiled unit that just concluded its US tour and a town that is now a tourist hotspot; such is the trajectory of Wrexham. 

The hit documentary Welcome to Wrexham brought the town and the club to local and global stardom while also earning Reynolds his first-ever Emmy nomination. But for Ryan Reynolds, Wrexham AFC, and Welsh, this rainfall is much more than just a football win or a docuseries. As one fan put it on Reynolds’ Instagram post – “It’s more than football; it is getting our pride back.”
