Ryan Reynolds has been a prominent star in the industry for many decades now. Owing to him playing the notorious almost-heroic mutant, Reynolds’ popularity strikes a chord with the global audience, but there is one nation that cheers the loudest at the success of Reynolds’ endeavors: Canada. However, despite having the country’s president celebrate him with a personal video message not long ago, Ryan Reynolds only realized how popular he is back home after William Shatner mentioned him.
While delivering hurricane safety precautions and expressing his disdain for cats, William Shatner casually mentioned fellow Canadian talent, Ryan Reynolds. For Ryan Reynolds, however, it was a badge of honor.

The 46-year-old actor, despite finding a home in the United States, famously belongs to Canada. And right after celebrating a victory on the field with his football club, Ryan Reynolds had a field day on Twitter as he got roped in a discussion that William Shatner was having with his fans. The Star Trek actor said he likes Reynolds only to follow it up with “Or at least I think I do.”
William Shatner’s playful jabs at Ryan Reynolds seemed tinged with skepticism. But Reynolds seemed too busy celebrating the fact that he was on Shatner’s radar.
While this may be the first time Shatner has openly addressed his views about Ryan Reynolds, the two have had a unique and creatively fueled interaction in the past.
Can Captain Kirk be Deadpool?
Ryan Reynolds and William Shatner have not worked together on screen, but their careers have had pretty identical trajectories. Shatner rose to prominence with his role as Captain Kirk, who played the hero in Star Trek, while Reynolds played the hero in the Deadpool franchise. And in 2018, Shatner bridged the gap between these two roles as he proposed that he too could play the Merc with a Mouth.

Shatner’s question was a way to bring the spotlight to a silent auction managed by his children. The actor was bringing attention to an SFX artist whose work would be hoisted at the auction. But SFX artists aside, with the simple knowledge that William Shatner knows him, Reynolds will not mind having him play a Deadpool variant.
