Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s decision to transition from their traditional royal roles to start a new chapter in Hollywood instantly became a subject of skepticism. While some stood by the Sussexes for listening to their hearts, others took issue with them for breaking age-old customs. However, the Sussexes were not the trailblazers in the royal family when it came to forging careers in the entertainment world.

Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, who also is Prince Harry’s uncle, ventured into the entertainment realm thirty years back. After leaving military service, Prince Edward dabbled in producing within the industry. However, his productions did not pay off, leaving him with a hefty debt of  600,000 pounds. Despite the setbacks, Prince Edward remained determined to carve a niche in the industry. He founded his own production company, Ardent Productions, in the year 1993.

Ardent Productions delivered a series of underwhelming shows, including 1995’s Real Tennis, which garnered a total viewership of 8000 audience. After churning out flop after flop and numerous controversies, Ardent was officially dissolved in 2011. Though many believed that the Sussexes would have a similar fate, things went well for them in the entertainment industry. Well, until the Wales intervened.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle rolled out their docuseries, Harry & Meghan, as a part of their $100 million deal with Netflix. Though the show became a huge success in terms of viewership, and even won an award nomination recently, it ruffled the feathers of the royals with the contentious claims. Adding fuel to the fire, Prince Harry released his bombshell memoir, Spare, that further sent shockwaves to the royal palace. The Wales are reportedly collaborating with A-listers, including Taylor Swift, to prove that Hollywood is still obsessed with the royals. The source also claimed that Wales did not even have to try hard to convince the celebrities. They were already in support of Prince William and Kate Middleton. This could be a real challenge for the Sussexes’ royal career, yet the wish is for it not to end as tragically as Prince Edward’s.
