The 2016 release, Deadpool, was Ryan Reynolds‘ defining role that completely changed his trajectory as an actor. From romantic comedies to action movies, Reynolds has tried his hands at multiple genres. However, nothing suited the 46-year-old more than his portrayal of the ‘merc with a mouth’. Earning more than $780 million worldwide, the first installment of this blockbuster became the highest-grossing movie in the extended X-Men universe. With such a massive success, one would think that no other actor could have played the role of Wade Wilson other than Reynolds.

While it is tough to say if any other actor could have played the sarcastic Jack of Hearts with such perfection, there were indeed other considerations for the part. One of the popular stars of the American superhero TV series, The Boys, was the first pick for the popular character.

The Boys’ actor was the initial preference for Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool

The Boys is a 2019 dark comedy series that garnered positive reviews from both critics and audiences owing to its unique portrayal of a dark superhero world. This series featured a group of talented cast, including Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, and Dominique McElligott. However, there was one actor who had a commanding presence in the series with his portrayal of a soldier boy. Jensen Ackles, who was also a part of The Boys’ developer, Eric Kripke’s Supernatural was the first choice for Deadpool prior to The Adam Project star, as per Startefacts.

Ackles, popular for playing the parody of Captain America, revealed in an interview at the SPN PHX J2 about his offers for any other superhero movies. To which the actor responded with Deadpool. He further went on to explain his reason for backing out of the X-Men franchise and credited it to his ex-girlfriend, Morena Baccarin. The Texas-born actor said since “his ex-girlfriend was on there that probably would have been awkward”. 

Talking about ex-partners, Hugh Jackman once claimed that Reynolds’ ex-wife was the reason behind his feud with the Just Friends actor.

Among all the industry feuds, nothing is even remotely as interesting as the fake rivalry between the real-life Deadpool and Wolverine. The two celebs of Tinsel Town take pleasure in putting down each other publicly with mean comments. Both the stars met on the sets of X-Men Origins: Wolverine and their rivalry began after Reynolds’ 2016 blockbuster Deadpool hit the theaters. During an interview, the Logan actor spilled the beans about what ignited this feud in the first place, blaming it on Reynolds’ ex-wife, Scarlett Johansson.

The 54-year-old actor told Daily Beast that the rivalry between him and his Deadpool 3 co-star is so long that he doesn’t even remember its origins. However, he revealed that he “used to ream him because I (Jackman) was very close friends with Scarlett” and asked the Green Lantern actor to be on his “best behavior here” post their marriage. As per Jackman, this is what led Reynolds to call him out and “manipulate” him on social media, marking the beginning of their rivalry.
