Will Smith and his caliber of outdoing himself require no introduction. Having flexed himself within the genres beyond cinematics, his three-decade-long career is not short of milestones. A household name for success, Will Smith’s acting in the 2001 documentary, Ali, had garnered him prolonged acclaim for his powerful delivery. 

About two decades ago, Will Smith was hailed as the rightful prodigy for depicting Ali seamlessly. However, Ali was not the only lauded project Smith had signed up for that year. He also appeared in 2 different projects that left lasting glory in his vocation.

A Century of Science Fiction

A Century of Science Fiction projected the feature of the most acknowledged sci-fi movies of the century with their trailers. The narration was ordained to the eulogized narrator, Christopher Lee. The documentary featured prominent stars, including Will Smith, Eddie Murphy, Charlton Heston, and others. Smith’s feature was courtesy of his film, Independence Day. Actors featured in the documentary were mostly attaining self-play due to the chronicling of archive trailers and clips.

The project mainly focused on science-fiction, and how it came into being. Tracing the roots, of course, was followed by the evolution of sci-fi movies, including montage clips from The Terminator, A Trip to the Moon, and others. Smith has science-fiction masterpieces like Spaceballs, Back to Future, and the one adding $100 alone, the Men in Black series, attached to his name. Hence, his feature in the documentary was no shocker. 

While A Century of Science Fiction celebrated the sci-fi genre, his next groundwork was a heartfelt tribute to America.

America: A Tribute to the Heroes

Deemed as one of the finest moments of television’s history, America: A Tribute to the Heroes, was a due call for Americans to return to normalcy. It had also ensued for honoring the heroes and raising relief funds. Considering the undeniably tumultuous time, this project was a step forward in bringing ranking stars from the music and cinema industry, including Will Smith, Jim Carrey, Robin Williams, and others. 

The project was undertaken following the unfortunate incident of the 9/11 attack. Will Smith’s recital with Muhammad Ali highlighted how “heroes come in all shapes, sizes, colors and religion.” For the performance part, no names of artists or their art were mentioned. Ideally placed to adorn the intent of the show, this project was seen as a bridge for Americans to uplift each other and conquer. The musical documentary was a joint effort by Fox, ABC, NBC, and CBS.
