Mr. Lively, an Oscar Shot and ‘Deadpool’ Update- Ryan Reynolds Overpowers Rob McElhenney After Wrexham’s Emmy Run
In Welcome to Wrexham, Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney joined forces to grab the reins of the 5th-tier Red Dragons soccer club. The first 18-episode season not only scored a goal with audiences but also netted an impressive six Emmy nominations in reality programming categories. And they won four of them! To celebrate their achievement, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney shared a video through Wrexham AFC’s official Instagram page, giving a nod to Deadpool, Oscars, and Blake Lively.
In the video, Ryan Reynolds sported a Deadpool mask and humorously dubbed himself “Mr. Lively“. He took a moment to extend thanks to FX and Disney for their backing and pledged to handle the Deadpool franchise with care. Also, he cheekily threw in a playful threat to the Oscars to give them a nod for their documentary. Over the past few years, the Welsh club has witnessed a meteoric rise, both on and off the pitch. This transformative journey has been guided by none other than Reynolds and McElhenney.

Welcome to Wrexham Season 3 does, in fact, have the potential to be a major hit. With EFL making a comeback after a massive 15-year hiatus, which has been Reynolds and McElhenney’s crowning achievement so far, and the scoring of league two along with a promotion, could be the highlights of the upcoming season. Another potential episode angle could be the recovery journey of super striker Paul Mullin, who faced a punctured lung during the preseason match against Manchester United.
His healing process took place under the roof of team owner Rob McElhenney’s California residence. It would not be satisfying if Welcome to Wrexham overlooks the opportunity to showcase this storyline in a short episode. Beyond the preseason drama, there was also a collection of games that could hold the potential for significant screen time. Should all go well, Reynolds and McElhenney could find themselves with over four Emmy Awards for their third documentary installment, if not more.
