Matthew Vaughn appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he shed light on the persisting rumors about him directing The Authority. He revealed being in talks with DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran about directing the movie. However, there has not been any confirmation about the decision. “The franchise is in the best hands, so let’s see what happens,” added the 52-year-old filmmaker about the new CEOs.
Vaughn also shared how he is currently “very much enjoying” his own creative endeavors and finds it difficult to “get hold of ” all the “political madness” with franchises. Matthew Vaughn then reflected on expressing his interest in directing the Man of Steel. However, that wish did not manifest at that time. Nevertheless, Vaughn did manage to work with the “Man” himself in his upcoming movie, Argylle. A multi-million dollar franchise that he can call his own.
As he is just months away from the release of his probable blockbuster, Matthew Vaughn revealed his inspiration behind the cinematic approach of Argylle, starring Henry Cavill.

Ever since the upcoming spy action comedy dropped its trailer, it has been causing waves all over the web. Partly because of the association of its star-studded cast, and the rest owed to the peculiar hairstyle of Henry Cavill. The trailer also raised a lot of questions about Argylle’s plots, which, despite seeming interesting, became a bit of a head-scratcher. During his appearance at last weekend’s New York Comic Con, Vaughn revealed the inspiration behind his unique approach in Argylle.
In the trailer, fans got to see the character of Bryce Dallas Howard, Elly Conway, being forcefully taken on a journey by her fictional characters, or who she thought were fictional. As per Vaughn, this idea goes back to the days of him being a Potterhead. He always wanted J.K Rowling to follow a self-referential style in Harry Potter, where she would encounter her own imaginative characters, only to realize they were real.
