Back in 2019, John Krasinski was celebrating his 40th birthday. While most people expected the star to either spend a day with his family or even go out with his friends, the actor went a whole different way. On an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, he shared that he had once tried his best to scam the X-Men star using a picture of him and Emily Blunt hugging each other at a red carpet event.
He went on to say that he was doing a fundraiser for his birthday and that he “just begged people for money” on X (formerly Twitter). That is when he decided to play a prank on Hugh Jackman in hopes of getting him to donate. While the Australian actor eventually got back to Krasinski and donated, it wasg a tweet tagging Ryan Reynolds that finally grabbed his attention.
Although Hugh Jackman and Reynolds have been caught up in hilarious online feuds throughout the years, this is one of the few times that was not instigated by them.
John Krasinski called Ryan Reynolds in for backup
Before making his way to Jimmy Kimmel Live, John Krasinski had enlisted the help of Ryan Reynolds to get Hugh Jackman’s phone number. He even shared a tweet tagging both men, saying “thought I’d try a little good old fashioned blackmail?” in reference to the picture of his wife, Emily Blunt, and Hugh Jackman. As always, Reynolds had his own jokes to make about the situation. He responded to Krasinski’s tweet by saying that he wanted to be “Hugh’s cell phone”, so he could spend all day “cradled in his buttery-soft hands.”

While the world is used to Ryan Reynolds and his trolling, social media users were uncertain about one thing: Whether the Deadpool star had ended up sharing his friend’s number with the birthday boy. However, Jackman responded shortly after asking for the donation details. The Office star got his friends to end up donating more than “half a million dollars” to a charity named Family Reach.
