Jake Gyllenhaal Beautifully Uses Michelangelo’s David as a Metaphor When Asked About the Pressure on Young Actors in Hollywood
With the fast-paced change the entertainment industry is experiencing, things sometimes become overwhelming for everyone. Especially when it comes to young celebrities featured in television shows and movies. Whether it’s gothic queen Jenna Ortega or Stranger Things’ Noah Schnapp, they all have one thing in common: societal pressure. It is one of the drawbacks that they have to face growing up in the spotlight. Due to their young age and high social status, they have to make choices more responsibly with a sound mind. Talking about the same pressure, Jake Gyllenhaal beautifully used Michelangelo’s David as a metaphor that will inspire many performers out there.
The Academy Award-nominated actor recently appeared on an episode of First We Feast to promote his movie The Covenant. In this interview, he answered questions about his career while munching increasingly spicy wings. But when Sean Evans asked him about the pressure young actors experience, he gave the most wholesome response.

In his answer, the California native referred to the masterpiece sculpture created by Michelangelo. The actor said that he has seen the sculpture named David twice. He compared how that work of art is so perfectly carved with every single detail kept in mind while the models of slaves are not so polished, but they are still genius.
Likewise, when young actors enter Hollywood, they want to grab every single opportunity given to them. However, with the growing experience, they start to make choices depending on what they like.
“Sometimes for me personally that’s been about like let’s have fun like whatever f**k it you know and sometimes it’s been like it moves me so deeply that I cannot tell,” he said.
Given the years he has spent in the industry, filming challenging scenes with the likes of Jennifer Aniston, he is the best person to give such an advice. Meanwhile, Gyllenhaal is gearing up for the release of his upcoming movie.
