Jacob Elordi vs Henry Cavill: Who Would Be the Perfect Edward if Not Robert Pattinson in ‘Twilight’?
Who will ever forget the Twilight saga that gave the world Robert Pattinson as a diamond-skinned vampire? While there might have been some mixed emotions about the franchise back in the day, the ones who loved it are nowhere close to leaving it behind. In fact, now, fourteen years after the first film starring Kristen Stewart as Bella came out, the director of the film opened up about who she would cast today if the film was ever to be remade.
While Catherine Hardwicke’s choice of Jacob Elordi as Edward threw everyone, let us see if the director or the author of the books, Stephenie Meyer, has a better image of the brooding vampire.

Most of the world believes that the now soon-to-be father Robert Pattinson depicted the emo-character of Edward Cullen perfectly in the Twilight films. However, that is not what the author of the franchise thought. In fact, once in a dream casting, she revealed that she had wanted Henry Cavill to play the role. While ultimately that might not have worked out, it was not for the actor’s lack of trying as he did audition for it. With the director of the film going with Jacob Elordi in her latest fantasy reboot, let us see how the actors stack up against the written depiction of the character.
What Twilight’s Edward Cullen looked like
Catherine Hardwicke may have brought the Forks fantasy romance to life back in 2008. However, the whole story was based on Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight book series. In the books, the author described the character of Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen as someone with otherworldly charm and good looks that could leave anyone hypnotized.
In fact, with the character also standing at 6 feet and 2 inches tall, his height added to his attractiveness. He had striking, almost golden eyes that would turn red when he was overcome with bloodlust. However, that did not seem to deter the protagonist, Bella Swan, from trying to get to know him better. In fact, even the film franchise kept stuck perfectly to all the author’s choices except for her choice of actor.
While there is no doubt that both Henry Cavill and Jacob Elordi are extremely good-looking, one might fit the bill just a little better than the other.
Could Jacob Elordi play Edward Cullen?
Recently, Jacob Elordi has been branching out from television shows and films like Euphoria and The Kissing Booth. Instead, the actor has garnered attention for portraying the king of rock, Elvis Presley in the film, Priscilla and the plans for a Twilight remake. While he might be open to the role of playing Edward Cullen, the pairing of Wednesday star, Jenna Ortega and the 6″3 hunk would prove to be difficult to take seriously.
This would not be the first time fans would see him in a brooding role as he nailed the part perfectly in the HBO series as Nate Jacobs. Not only does he have the character’s otherworldly good looks, exceed the height expectations, and more, but he also has quite a lot of experience playing an easily dislikable character and having the world still love him.
However, with Elordi following strange acting methods even for his previous film, it could be fun to see how he gears up to take on Robert Pattinson’s iconic character.
Could Henry Cavill Play Edward Cullen?
Henry Cavill might be the world’s favorite superhero now, but that did not stop him from facing many rejections over the years. While he may have ended up with one of the most iconic roles in DC history, the actor revealed that he did try for the role of Edward Cullen back in the day. Although he did not make it past the audition stage, he was Stephenie Meyer’s go-to choice for casting. While that might be because of Robert Pattison bad-mouthing the roles and the books back then, her dreams sadly did not come true.
It might have been weird to see Cavill play a role as gloomy as Twilight’s bloodsucker, but there is no doubt that he would have added his own flare to the character. In fact, given his love for sticking to the source material, he may have even let Meyer tell the story the way she wanted to. With his classic charm, everyone would have fallen for him. It also did not help that he was only an inch shorter than the character was meant to be at 6 feet 1 inch.
While the world may have been robbed of another amazing Henry Cavill film, it may have stunted his chances of portraying Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel if he actually did get cast.
Who would be the perfect Edward Cullen?
The world may never get to see Henry Cavill take on the role of Edward Cullen in Twilight. However, it looks like Jacob Elordi’s time could be here. So far, the actor has not said anything about the role, mention, or even the film franchise. While the radio silence might last until talks for a reboot become official, the 26-year-old would definitely portray the character better if he were ever to go head-to-head with the 40-year-old.

Although Elordi’s Cullen would be the modernized version of Robert Pattison’s 2008 character, there is no doubt that the 37-year-old’s depiction of the character in the early days of his career will always be the best. With the evident lack of interest and awkward moments in the films, there is absolutely no way that anyone could embody those the way the OG actor does.
