Deadpool and Peacemaker hail from two different camps of the superhero universes. Yet, their over-the-top on-screen violence and profanity have consistently fueled comparisons among fans. Both the Deadpool and Peacemaker franchises have been instrumental in proving an audience appetite for R-rated comic book action. But imagining these two heavyweights teaming up on-screen is a seismic shift that is bound to shake up the entire landscape for the franchises. And fans might have slept on this imagination if it were not for John Cena’s cryptic social media share. 

John Cena recently shared a picture of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in their Deadpool and Wolverine costumes, from the sets of Shawn Levy’s Deadpool 3. While this post definitely kicked off the rumor mill about John Cena in Deadpool 3, here are some clues that point toward this being more than just wishful thinking.

Ryan Reynolds applauded a special cameo in Peacemaker

The Peacemaker trailer had tongues wagging with its intriguing teasers. Ryan Reynolds, the eagle-eyed genius, spotted a tiny detail in the flashy trailer and called out a special cameo in the HBO series. He hilariously pointed out the surprising guest star in Peacemaker by tweeting a snapshot with a caption saying, “Great Cameos”. This tweet then caught the attention of the showrunner, James Gunn. He hopped in on the fun, confirming in another tweet that the bottle did in fact belong to Aviation Gin.

Fans who were already gunning for a Deadpool cameo in the sarcastic Peacemaker series went a step further. They started a petition to throw Deadpool into the mix with Vigilante and Peacemaker in the second season. Additionally, there was also a growing curiosity among fans about the idea of James Gunn taking the director’s seat for a Deadpool adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This first trailer also drew some comparisons between Deadpool and Vigilante in Peacemaker. 

Deadpool got the same vibes as Vigilante 

The DCU fanbase did not hold back on expressing discontent with Vigilante’s portrayal in Peacemaker for its deviation from comic accuracy. However, Freddie Stroma’s genius managed to offset some of the disappointment with his on-screen wit and portrayal of sociopathic traits. These traits intriguingly aligned with those of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool, who is a self-preoccupied and emotionally detached character himself. 

These striking similarities led fans to draw comparisons between the two sociopathic characters, pushing for John Cena’s Peacemaker to recreate the same on-screen chemistry with Deadpool as it did with Vigilante. Even with the signals pointing in a certain direction, there is a chance that this collaboration might still be a far cry from becoming a tangible reality. And here is why. 

Why Deadpool and Peacemaker might never unite in the same universe? 

Marvel and DCU fans are currently in full-on detective mode, trying to crack the code of John Cena’s cryptic post. However, it is important to note that Cena has a history of throwing out random posts on social media that do not necessarily have a hidden agenda. He has been open about not being too serious about his social media as well. So, this post might just be his way of expressing some hype and love for the upcoming Deadpool 3 movie.

Similar characters do exist in both the DCU and Marvel, such as Hawkeye-Green Arrow, Deadpool-Deathstroke, and even Joker-Norman Osborn. However, fusing them in the same superhero universe would significantly alter the fabric of both comic franchises. Despite the leeway for creative freedom, the prospect of a DC hero joining the MCU ranks is a groundbreaking decision that will call for a rewriting of the superhero rulebook, no matter how fantastic it could be!
