For Cinderella, it was her Fairy godmother, for Spider-Man it was a radioactive spider, for Wrexham AFC it was Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, and for R&R it was Ben Foster. The actors who stepped into unfamiliar territory when they took over the football club were desperate for a win on paper. And with his short-term contract, Foster got them that and much more.

The goalkeeper had hung his gloves when Wrexham AFC was fighting nail and tooth to make the cut for League 2. And with what can only be described as a wrecking ball entry; he entered the team and secured a win. However, up until now, he was not planning to stay for long. But Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney had other plans.

The elite football player joined Wrexham at a very important point during the season in what he described as repaying the club for launching his career. It was made very clear that the star player was only joining on a temporary basis. However, much like how the club managed to wake him out of retirement, it also convinced him to stay longer. More specifically, the owners did. “Frozzy, come on, are we doing this or what?” Reynolds and McElhenney said as per Ben Foster on his Fozcast podcast.

More than the final promises, however, it was how the conversation came to be that was more interesting. The Hollywood stars decided that a WhatsApp group titled ‘Hands of Frozz’ is the best way to make sure that their star player, who is even termed legendary, stays.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been known to bring humor into most of their ventures. The former even revealed that his proudest achievement was the friendly locker room culture they had managed to establish at Wrexham AFC. Looks like it was enough to make Ben Foster extend his stay. But for how long?

Is Ben Foster a permanent Red Dragon now?

What came as a byproduct of Rob Lainton’s injury became an award-winning goalkeeper for Wrexham AFC. And while he joined only for a while, the Red Dragons proudly announced on the 9th of June that Ben Foster has joined them with a one-year contract.

It was clear in the cheers of the crowd and the loving eyes of Reynolds and McElhenney that they wanted him to stay. Therefore, it was not much of a surprise when Ben Foster stated, “It feels like home,” among the many reasons he has decided to stay. With the ‘Hands of Frozz’ guiding them in the upcoming season, Wrexham AFC might just make another big leap.
